Prosecutor Wants Delay In Toll Agency Change

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Orlando’s top prosecutor is asking the local expressway authority to delay putting a former state legislator in charge of the agency while his office investigates possible open meeting violations.

State Attorney Jeff Ashton on Friday asked for a delay in former Rep. Steve Precourt’s assumption of the executive director job at the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority.

Ashton says his investigation is in its infancy. But he says he detected a lack of candor and lapses in memory during interviews of witnesses.

He says he has heard enough to recommend a delay in Precourt’s taking over of the agency.

A spokeswoman for Precourt didn’t return a phone call.

Ashton’s office is investigating whether members of the board discussed the job status of the previous executive director out of a public setting.
