(AUDIO) Tedford: Premature to Call Glennon the Guy
New Bucs offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford joined Fan Interference to talk about the vision that he has for the offense. Jeff said that he liked the chance to go to the NFL and the time and situation was right for him to jumped to the NFL. At this time at Cal, he got real close to the kids there, and he was getting new facilities there so he wanted to see the vision through.
Perhaps the biggest question that Tedford and the team need to resolve is who will be the quarterback. Tedford says that he sees Glennon as a guy that has a lot of the tools to be a very good QB in the league. When asked about the future of Glennon moving forward, he said that it was still premature to have any definitive long term outlook on who will be the starter heading into next season.
“I think it’s really premature,” Tedford said when asked if he was confident that Mike Glennon was his quarterback moving forward. “As we sit down and talk as a staff, that will become more clear as we go. Just watching what I saw on tape, I’m confident that he has a lot of tools that can just continue to grow and get better as he moves forward into his second year.”
Tedford also went into detail about the draft-eligible quarterbacks he watched in college during his year off.
“I had a lot of opportunity to watch a lot of football both college and NFL,” Tedford said. “I paid particular attention to not just schemes and systems, but to look at the quarterbacks like Tahj Boyd, Derek Carr at Fresno State, David Fales at San Jose State, and Manziel.”
“Johnny Manziel brings a lot to the table. He’s a great athlete.”
“There are some very talented guys out there. I’m looking forward to evaluating them all on a deeper level.”
Another thing that Tedford talked about at his press conference about speed in space and how his time in the CFL helped him learn how to spread things out and get his skill guys in open space.
“We’re always going to try and get better.”
