FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – Tens of thousands of bees had to be removed from an area home after the insects began to overwhelm residents.

The amount of bees found in the walls of the home was estimated to be between 60,000 and 100,000 at the time of their removal, WPLG-TV is reporting.

Though homeowner Donna Reynolds and her family had been grappling with the issue for years, the bees recently began to make even everyday tasks difficult.

“My son did try and give my dog a bath out here one day,” she told WPLG. “We bathe him outside and they started to attack.”

She added, “My son had to run then he had to run back and get the dog and unleash him and get him in the house.”

The problem stemmed from the fact that, while measures had been taken to remove the bees, the hives had always remained, WEAR-TV learned.

Methods such as insect killers and foams had reportedly been tried in the past.

Ultimately, an expert identified by WPLG as “Willie the Bee Keeper” was brought in to remove the hives – which were allegedly almost too heavy to lift.
