FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla (CBS Tampa) – The judge who oversees Broward County’s drug court will be going to rehab, reports the Sun Sentinel.
Gisele Pollack has been open about battling alcoholism in the past.
Court officials noticed Judge Pollack behaving erratically and slurring her words on the bench earlier this week.
She abruptly ended the day’s session after about an hour and a half.
A source tells the Sun Sentinel Pollack was seen by another judge yelling at an assistant for her car keys back.
On Thursday she acknowledged she has suffered a relapse.
“I have some health issues,” she said. “I’m going into treatment for them. I have two weeks off starting [Friday]. I’m going to be in an intense outpatient program.”
Attorney Eric Schwartzreich, who is advising Pollack, said the judge has been suffering some emotional turmoil.
“She’s had some severe personal tragedy in her life,” Schwartzreich told the Sun Sentinel. “Her mother recently passed away, and they were very close. It’s been really devastating for her.”
He added another close family member is dealing with a severe medical issue, contributing to Pollack’s depression.
The 55-year-old Pollack has been a judge for nine years.
There has been no comment from Broward County officials.
