(AUDIO) Ken Rosenthal Says James Loney’s Signing Doesn’t Affect a David Price Trade

Ken Rosenthal, who broke the news that the Rays had resigned James Loney on Friday, joined Booger and Rich to talk about the signing of James Loney.

Rosenthal said there weren’t a lot of other viable options at first base and this signing was a great move for the Rays. He said this move wasn’t that extravagant and it’s not going to break the Rays bank. Loney to Rosenthal is a slightly above average useful first baseman and the Rays clearly feel comfortable with him or they wouldn’t have given him this deal.

Rosenthal said he still thinks the Rays will trade David Price despite the signing. This signing doesn’t affect a possible trade with the Mariners according to Rosenthal who says Justin Smoak was rumored to be a player the Mariners would offer for Price. The Mariners are in, the Diamondbacks are in and the Dodgers are kind of in the running to trade for Price according to Rosenthal.
