Tea Party Leader Dies In Car Crash

OCALA, Fla. (AP) — The president of a north Florida Tea Party group has been killed in a two-vehicle car crash in Marion County.

The Florida Highway Patrol told the Ocala Star-Banner that 70-year-old Stephen Hunter of Sparr died in the Friday night crash. Hunter headed the Ocala Tea Party or Tea Party Solutions for the last several years.

Friends say Hunter was a Vietnam veteran who later worked at defense contractor Lockheed Martin.

Troopers say Hunter was attempting to make a left turn on U.S. 441 and apparently did not see an oncoming pickup truck, which struck Hunter’s car on the driver’s side.

Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the truck were uninjured.

Neither Kirkland nor Hodges were injured. They were wearing their seat belts, troopers said.
