Shark Riding Trend Deemed Dangerous

TAMPA (CBS Tampa) – For vacationers who think swimming with dolphins has become too passé, there’s a new travel trend…swimming with sharks.

Slate.com has noticed an increase in the number of videos of people enjoying hands-on-fin encounters with the deep sea predators.

Swimmers grab a shark by its dorsal fin and allow it to pull them through the water.

The online magazine reports the first people who videotaped themselves shark riding were conversationalists, trying to demystify the world of sharks and prove they are not the viscous man-eaters portrayed in the movies.

People like Ocean Ramsey in the above video.

But they have years of diving experience and familiarity with shark behaviors.

The latest shark swimmers seem to be thrill seekers who have been inspired by what they see on Youtube, like in this video of tourists in Bora Bora swimming with a lemon shark.

Slate Magazine warns this is a trend that could end very badly if people are too careless next to the sharks.
