(AUDIO) The Tampa Tribune’s Ira Kaufman Says Tony Dungy Deserves the Hall of Fame More than Jon Gruden

Bucs beat writer for the Tampa Tribune and the man who presents former Buccaneers to the Hall of Fame selection committee Ira Kaufman joined Booger and Rich to discuss which former Buc will be enshrined in Canton next.

Kaufman said he’s already started his research on Derrick Brooks in preparation for him going into the Hall of Fame. He said there’s no question Brooks will be on the list of 25 semifinalist. Kaufman said he also thinks John Lynch will be on that list as well.

Kaufman said he thinks Tony Dungy will get in before Jon Gruden because he’s a better all around coach. Kaufman also said Dungy said he has a lot going for him in regards to his off the field charity and his coaching tree. Gruden did a nice job in Oakland and did win a Super Bowl in Tampa Bay, but Kaufman said he did a poor job of defending that Super Bowl championship.

Kaufman did say he expects Gruden to leave the booth at some time and come back to the sidelines as a head coach but it will have to be the perfect situation.

With both Ronde Barber and John Lynch in the hall of fame discussion, Kaufman said Barber will get more recognition because the safety position is undervalued.
