WEST BOCA, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – A woman was arrested after she reportedly fed her 6-year-old son Adderall “just to see if there [was] a noticeable difference.”

According to the Florida Sun-Sentinel, mother Healther McAuliffe was said to have crushed up the medication – intended to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder – in his yogurt last Wednesday.

McAuliffe, 39, then wrote to her son’s first grade teacher about her experiment, an arrest report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office obtained by the paper indicated.

“I tried something today,” the note reportedly said. “I gave [my son] 5 milligrams of my Adderall just to see if there is a noticeable difference. He does not know because I crushed it up in his yogurt.”

She then asked the unnamed teacher to monitor his behavior. Instead, the teacher alerted the authorities, who followed up with McAuliffe about the matter on Thursday.

Before being arrested, she claimed she had given him the medication to help the child, the Sun-Sentinel learned.

McAuliffe was remanded to the Palm Beach County Jail, then released several hours later on a $3,000 bond, the paper also found.

She is said to now be facing a child abuse charge.
