Police: Woman, 67, Tried To Smuggle 82 Sleeping Pills Into Jail After Battery Arrest

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – A local woman who had been arrested on battery charges found herself in even hotter water after authorities at the Charlotte County Jail discovered a baggie with 82 sleeping pills hidden in her bra.

The woman, 67-year-old Jean Elaine Leveque, had been arrested on Monday evening after forcing her way into an area home and demanding that the man who resided there leave, WWSB-7 is reporting. When he refused, she reportedly began to assault the unnamed victim.

A deputy with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office soon arrived on the scene and, upon seeing the victim’s injuries and taking statements, arrested Leveque and took her to the county jail.

A corrections officer asked her if she had any weapons or illegal contraband on her person as she was being processed. Leveque informed the woman that she did not.

The station learned that Leveque then attacked the corrections officer as she was being transferred, requiring a second officer to assist in calming her down. During the struggle, it was discovered that she had a baggie containing 82 Lunesta pills hidden in her bra.

The drug is considered a schedule 4 controlled substance.

In addition to the domestic batter charge for which she was arrested, Leveque is now also facing charges of battery on a corrections officer, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and introduction of contraband into a county detention facility, WWSB-7 is reporting.

Leveque is reportedly now being held without bond.
