CENTURY, Fla. (CBS Tampa) - A local man who shoved a pregnant woman to the ground was arrested for doing so.
While officials with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office were taking him away, he said that his arrest was unfair, and told them that President Barack Obama was correct in saying that “cops always listen to women.”
An incident report obtained by The Smoking Gun indicates that 18-year-old John Henry Shiffner got into a fight with his girlfriend, 30-year-old Lakesha Tolbert on Saturday.
The altercation escalated when Shiffner shoved Tolbert to the ground, despite the fact that she is reportedly over two months pregnant.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, Tolbert told them that the young man had been drinking the entire day because “he was upset about a death in the family.”
Shiffner denied any wrongdoing and claimed he had not been drinking, despite officers noting that he smelled of alcohol.
The Smoking Gun learned that Shiffner was arrested soon after police arrived. While he was being put into the squad car, he first yelled at Tolbert, then began to make claims about “how Obama is right.”
He added, “Obama said cops always listen to women.”
Shiffner is now facing charges of felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. He was remanded to the county jail, where he remains presently. He is being held in lieu of a $3,500 bond.
His court date is scheduled for Nov. 8, The Smoking Gun is reporting.
