Michael Silver from NFL Network spoke to former Buccaneer Michael Bennett who ripped into Greg Schiano and his coaching style. Silver joined Booger and Rich to talk about it.
Silver says it’s no secret that Greg Schiano runs a tight ship and tends to go out of his way to flex his power. Silver said it has rubbed people the wrong way and when you combine that with losing it makes for a lousy state of affairs. Silver said when you hear a guy like Michael Bennett complain about Schiano there’s an issue.
Silver said former players told him that Schiano once yelled at his special teams coach and threatened to fire him for coming onto the field in the wrong area. Silver said it seems like Schiano is just trying to show how tough he is and that he’s in charge.
Another story from former players, Silver says that Schiano told his team to listen to anything that Bill Belichik and the Patriots staff told them to do during preseason joint practices.
On top of players, scouts told Silver that Schiano made them feel lousy and demeaned them when they came to scout his players at Rutgers.
Silver says he thinks the Bucs were focused in on Chip Kelly and when that didn’t work out they had to adjust on the fly. That may have caused them to go after a different college coach so they landed on Schiano. Silver said it’s fair to say Mark Dominik probably had some role in the decision to bring Schiano in and he should be held somewhat responsible for that.
