Former NFL MVP and CBS NFL Analyst Rich Gannon joined Booger and Rich to talk about the Bucs current QB situation and whether or not Mike Glennon can be a franchise QB.
Gannon said that coordinators do play a role in a team’s success but it’s more a combination of players, coaches and scheme that determine wins and losses. The Bucs haven’t had all three clicking and that may be why they are winless.
With Josh Freeman’s poor play on Monday Night Football, Gannon says Greg Schiano should feel validated in his decision to bench Freeman. Gannon said that it was entirely Freeman’s fault. Leslie Frazier should’ve never started him because he simply wasn’t ready. Gannon also said he thinks they should’ve pulled Freeman at half.
So can Freeman be a QB in the NFL? Gannon says he’s not sure anymore. His inconsistency is something you simply can’t have in the NFL as a starting QB.
Gannon said that QB Mike Glennon look sharp coming out of college but it’s too early to know if he’ll be the franchise guy.
Doug Martin recently suffered a shoulder injury and controversy is swirling on whether or not he should play. Gannon says there’s nothing to gain to play Martin if he’s hurt and can become worse. He did say that if Martin can go and is healthy then he absolutely should play.
When it comes to Greg Schiano, Gannon says that he’s a sharp intelligent guy but he can’t lose the locker room. Gannon said it’s hard for players to buy in and trust a coach when they’re not getting wins.
