Report: Bucs Bench Freeman, Glennon To Start Sunday Against Cardinals

Tampa Bay (CBS Radio) – Two days ago, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano was telling anyone who would listen that Josh Freeman still had his job as the Bucs starting QB despite the team’s 0-3 start and Freeman’s inconsistent play.

That opinion has reportedly changed, as a league source is reporting that Freeman has, in fact, been benched in favor of rookie QB Mike Glennon, who will be under center for the Bucs when they host the 1-2 Arizona Cardinals at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday. The Bucs organization has yet to confirm the move.

The change was first tweeted out by ESPN NFL Insider Adam Scheffter early Wednesday morning. If confirmed, it calls into question the Bucs’ coaching staff and front office’s commitment to the remainder of the season, and certainly will increase doubt that Freeman, a free agent after this season, will be re-signed by the club to any sort of long-term deal.

Freeman’s struggles as the Bucs signal-caller this season thus far are well documented: he’s completed less than 50% of his passes (45.7%) and has more interceptions (3) than touchdowns (2).
