Sports Illustrated’s NFL expert Peter King joined Booger and Rich to talk about the decision by Greg Schiano and the Buccaneers to bench Josh Freeman in favor of Mike Glennon.
Kings says the move was made because Schiano was unhappy with the quarterback situation and that Freeman has been inaccurate almost the entire time that Schiano has been coaching him. To Schiano, he waited long enough.
King surprisingly said it would be dumb to try to trade Josh Freeman right now because there isn’t a team that would be willing to give up anything of worth while. King said it’s ok to bench a starting QB and keep him on the roster.
King said that the Bucs didn’t know Freeman would play this poorly before the season started and that’s why they didn’t make the move to trade him then. The Bucs simply weren’t ready to pull the plug yet.
King also said that Freeman isn’t “Dominik’s guy.” King says Dominik’s guy is a QB that’s going to win games for him and Freeman hasn’t been that guy.
So where will Freeman go now? King says he’ll probably get picked up by another team, but likely as a backup or as a competing QB.
King finally said that it was only a matter of time before Glennon replaced Freeman as the starting QB and he has no problem with it happening right now.
