ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – Authorities with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrested a local man after they say he taped himself beating a young girl for over 40 minutes.

The victim, who is the daughter of his now ex-girlfriend, told police about the video that shows him whipping her while Robin Thicke’s controversial hit song “Blurred Lines” plays in the background.

According to the Floriduh blog of the Florida Sun-Sentinel, 40-year-old Steven Grady Fillingim was enraged when he learned that the unnamed victim had skipped school. An arrest report obtained by the paper indicated that Fillingim was also upset because she had neglected to “[vacuum] up bugs from the carpet,” and referred to the child as “lazy.”

Police learned that several items were used in her abuse, including a switch, a cell phone and his own hands. In addition to hitting her, Fillingim also allegedly forced the girl to shovel dirt for over an hour and to hold a heavy weight in front of her body for an extended period of time.

Bruises were visible on her back and upper thighs, police additionally discovered.

The paper learned that Fillingim is now facing three counts of child abuse for his actions.
