Fla. Man Sets House On Fire With Girlfriend Inside

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Sheriff’s deputies say a central Florida man tried to burn down his house while his live-in girlfriend was inside.

Troy Ladd faces several charges including attempted murder and arson of a dwelling with someone inside. He remained in the Volusia County Jail on Monday.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports the girlfriend told deputies she saw 49-year-old Ladd burning his belongings in the back yard around 10 p.m. Sunday. She says she went to bed but was awakened around midnight by popping noises. She got up and saw Ladd dousing the sofa with gasoline.

She ran outside but saw her Jeep in flames. She asked neighbors to call 911.

Responding deputies say Ladd told them they “might as well arrest” him.

No one was injured in the fire.
