Hotel Worker Arrested In Fatal Tandem Bike Crash

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — A 29-year-old Clearwater hotel worker is in jail after crashing into a tandem bike and then leaving the scene.

The crash happened on Monday morning in Clearwater. Police arrested 29-year-old Christopher Patrick Weed on Tuesday after he came forward to say his pickup truck may have been involved in the crash that left 25-year-old Rob Lemon dead and his 27-year-old girlfriend Hilary Michalak critically injured.

Police say Weed told them he blacked out on the way home from work about 6:45 a.m. He said he didn’t remember hitting anyone but came forward after seeing reports of the crash. Police inspected his truck and found the windshield missing, with damage to the front end.

Authorities say the crash on the Memorial Causeway left the bike in pieces.
