Police: ‘Robo-Tripping’ Teen Tries To Kill Father With Hammer
SPRING HILL (CBS TAMPA) — After ingesting “a lot” of cough syrup, police say a teen in Spring Hill came up with the idea to try to kill his father with a hammer.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that Cory Lee Murphy, 17, stole the medicine from a local dollar store last Friday. After drinking it, a practice known as “Robo-tripping” because of its supposed ability to cause hallucinations, he tried to steal his grandmother’s car by hot-wiring with a screw driver, but failed.
Police state that Murphy found a hammer and thought about killing his father with it, before deciding to leave the house instead.
When his father Robert Murphy, 51, tried to stop him from leaving the house his son allegedly hit him in the head with the hammer.
When police arrived Robert Murphy was found on the driveway bleeding. However, he did manage to get the hammer off of his son and leave the house.
Police arrested Cory Lee Murphy on counts of aggravated domestic battery and attempted grand theft auto. He was sent to the Land O’Lakes juvenile assessment center.
