The Rays Option Jeremy Hellickson Back to Single-A Charlotte

The Tampa Bay Rays have optioned starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson to Single A Charlotte. The move came after Hellickson was roughed up in an outing against the Royals on Monday.

Sources are saying that Hellickson will not pitch in the minors and will return to the team at some point, likely in early September. Joe Maddon told reporters that the move was made to help Hellickson rest and was not injury related.

The Rays have recalled left handed pitcher Jeff Beliveau to replace Hellickson on the roster.

Hellickson has lost 5 of his last 6 starts and hasn’t won a start since July 26th.
