Martin’s Mother Speaks Out Against Stop-Frisk

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) — The mother of Trayvon Martin is speaking out against the police practice of stopping and frisking hundreds of thousands of people a year in New York City.

Critics complain that the stops target black and Hispanic people who aren’t doing anything wrong. Earlier this week, New York City was told by a judge that its stop-and-frisks are racially discriminatory and a monitor was appointed to oversee changes to the way the policy is carried out.

In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Sybrina Fulton said, “you can’t give people the authority, whether civilian or police officers the right to just stop somebody because of the color of their skin.”

Her attorney Benjamin Crump told The Associated Press that racial profiling is not a good policy to base laws on.
