Man Shot After Pointing Gun At SWAT Team

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A South Florida man is in critical condition after he was shot by a SWAT team member during a lengthy standoff.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s officials went to the Boynton Beach home Saturday after receiving a call that a weapon had been fired inside the home of a suicidal man. Authorities evacuated roughly six nearby homes.

Family members warned deputies the man was a skilled marksman who owned numerous weapons.

Deputies and SWAT team members negotiated with the unidentified man for several hours. He came outside the house several times and, at one point, authorities said he shot a vehicle parked in his driveway, but then retreated.

When he emerged for the final time, authorities said he pointed his weapon at a SWAT member and the officer returned fire.
