Inmate Goes For Deputy’s Gun In Tampa Courtroom

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — An inmate faces more charges after authorities say he tried to grab a deputy’s gun while waiting for a hearing to start in a Hillsborough County courtroom.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s officials say 24-year-old Robert Lewis Bridges was clad in shackles, handcuffs and a waist chain as his waited for his case to be called on Tuesday morning. They say Bridges lunged forward and grabbed Sgt. Tracey Wallace’s holstered gun.

Wallace kept Bridges from taking the gun and as the two struggled, two other deputies restrained the inmate and took him out of the courtroom. No one was injured.

He was taken to a holding cell. He was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and depriving an officer of means of protection.
