Orlando Cop Shot During Traffic Stop

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — One of two men arrested following the shooting of an Orlando police officer during a traffic stop is facing charges.

Police say Demetrius Patterson will be charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The other man wasn’t immediately charged.

Officer Jason Hajek pulled over a vehicle that was driving recklessly early Tuesday morning. Police say Patterson and the other man got out of the vehicle, and then Patterson shot Hajek. The men fled on foot but were arrested several hours later.

Authorities say Hajek was able return fire, call for help and give a description to dispatch.

Police say Hajek was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery. He remained at the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
