Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sign Peyton Hillis

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today the signing of running back Peyton Hillis to a one-year contract. Hillis (6-2, 250) enters his sixth year in the NFL, having played in 65 games with 33 starts, totaling 597 rushes for 2,470 yards (4.1 avg.) and 21 touchdowns, while catching 111 passes for 867 yards and three touchdowns. Hillis ranked sixth in the NFL in scrimmage yards in 2010, with 1,654 yards. He also tied for third in the league with 13 total touchdowns (11 rushing, two receiving).

He was the first player in Browns history to rush for 1,000 yards, record 50 receptions and score 10 touchdowns in a season. He was named to the 2010 USA Today All-Joe team, and was selected as the Browns Player of the Year by the Cleveland chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America.

Hillis originally entered the league as a seventh-round pick (227th overall) of the Denver Broncos in 2008. An Arkansas native, Hillis played collegiately at the University of Arkansas, where he was part of a backfield that included future NFL players RB Darren McFadden and RB Felix Jones.

The team also announced the waiving of running back Matt Brown.
