Man Shot By Deputy Following Domestic Call

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A man was shot and wounded after authorities say he threatened a Tampa Bay area deputy with a gun.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reports that two deputies responded to a domestic dispute Wednesday morning at Oakbend Apartments. A woman at a friend’s apartment had called authorities, saying her boyfriend was outside with a gun.

The deputies reported finding an armed 27-year-old Carlos Rivera-Rodriguez when they arrived. They ordered Rivera-Rodriguez to drop his weapon several times. When he failed to comply, one of the deputies shot Rivera-Rodriguez. He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

No other injuries were reported.
