(AUDIO) Matt Baker from the Tampa Bay Times: Parents Don’t Realize How Hard They Are on Student Athletes

Matt Baker from the Tampa Bay Times joined Booger and Rich to talk about his series with John Cotey regarding high school athletics and the pressure felt by schools from parents who continue to push their kids for scholarship opportunities.

Baker said these days parents don’t have a sense of how ridiculous they’re being when they’re screaming and yelling at youth sports. He also said that most parents think that their kids have a chance to go on to play division one college sports, but the odds say that they won’t.

Baker also said that high school athletes that are pushed hard can feel the effects from injuries down the road in their careers. Baker also said that the media plays a role in pushing student athletes because they put out lists like top 8th grade basketball players to feed the demand for recruiting news.
