Woman Throws Baby At Police While Being Arrested
PENSACOLA, Fla. (CBS TAMPA) - A three month old infant was thrown towards an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy who was trying to arrest a woman for suspected shoplifting Monday.
In a press release from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department, Ashley Taylor Wright went into a fitting room at the Santa Rosa Mall’s Dillard’s department store in Mary Esther, Florida with clothing items to try on. The merchandise wasn’t left in the fitting room and Wright exited without the items.
Two pairs of jeans and a shirt valued at $261.00 were hidden inside of Wright’s baby stroller.
When she reached the parking lot of the mall, Wright started yelling at her husband to leave as a deputy approached her car with two small children in it. Her 14 pound infant was in the baby carrier when the deputy approached the car asking her to get out.
When the deputy attempted to get her out of the vehicle, she put the baby carrier in front of her saying “You will have to shoot through the baby to get me.”
Wright ran from the car, and threw her baby towards the deputy. As the deputy tried to take her into custody Wright fell as she tried to fight him off.
Wright was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center to receive treatment of a laceration to her head.
She is charged with petty theft, child abuse without great bodily harm, and resisting an officer without violence.
The baby was unharmed in the incident.
