Cops: Man Lit Truck On Fire Injuring Man Inside

MARATHON, Fla. (AP) — A North Carolina man is facing attempted second-degree murder charges after authorities say he lit a truck on fire, severely injuring a man inside.

Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies said Stuart Collins and Jose Gonzales may have been arguing over a woman at a bar in the Florida Keys shortly before Friday’s fire.

Authorities said 28-year-old Collins tipped over a gasoline can and lit it. The truck had a tank of diesel fuel and a generator on it. Authorities said the fire caused several explosions and injured 52-year-old Gonzales, who was in the cab of the truck.

Deputies said he was hospitalized with second and third degree burns to more than half his body.

Collins fled but was arrested after he returned to the scene. He was also charged with arson.
