NFL analyst Ron Jaworski is currently ranking the Top 32 Starting QB’s in the NFL through intense film study. The Buccaneers‘ Josh Freeman fell 4 spots on Jaws’ list to number 21 this season. He’s slotted behind QB’s like Philip Rivers and Alex Smith.
Jaworski joined Booger and Rich to discuss why Freeman fell 4 spots on his chart. Jaws said that he was baffled by Freeman’s inconsistency last season and at times he was the best QB in all of football. He also noted that Freeman needs to improve on how quickly he processes information during the play.
Jaws also said that a coach like Greg Schiano having confidence in Josh Freeman is crucial to a QB’s success. Jaworski said while he was playing in Philadelphia he was being heavily booed and head coach Dick Vermeil pulled him aside and told him “you’re my guy.” That small pep talk put Jaworski at ease and helped him focus on the task at hand.
Ron Jaworski also said that the consistency of the Buccaneers organization with 2nd year coaches Greg Schiano and coordinator Mike Sullivan should help Josh Freeman and the team as a whole.
According to Jaws, he likes Josh Freeman’s mobile ability but hopes that he’ll throw more from the pocket, but noted that he has the skills to be one of the more accurate QB’s in the NFL.
