PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (CBS Tampa) — Two teenage girls were hospitalized after their parasail became detached from a boat pulling them, then crashed into a nearby condominium parking lot.
The accident happened Monday afternoon in Panama City Beach. Witnesses say they saw the girls spinning uncontrollably after the parasail came loose. The girls slammed into a 13th floor beach-view balcony, grabbing the railing before strong winds pulled them away.
“When the storm came up earlier, the parasail broke loose,” witness Doug Mador told WTVY-TV. “There were two girls parasailing, and they broke loose. You were yelling to please miss the building because I knew if they slammed into it would … probably be pretty traumatic.”
The wind took the girls over the top of the building into a neighboring complex and into power lines lining the road. The girls then slammed into the condo’s parking lot.
“I saw them just going out of control, first hit the hotel, and then they grabbed the rail, and then of course it brought them up, came over the top,” witness Jake Hood told WTVY-TV. “This is when I like really noticed something was going on. I didn’t know what it was at first.”
First responders arrived quickly to the scene, earning the praise of witnesses who watched the ordeal.
There is no word yet on the girls’ conditions.
