(AUDIO) Dave Andreychuk: Vinny Lecavalier was the Face of the Franchise

Dave Andreychuk

Today the Tampa Bay Lightning bought out captain Vinny Lecavalier’s contract to clear room for the new salary cap. Lecavalier has played his entire career with the Lightning after being taken first overall in the 1998 NHL Draft.

Former Lightning captain and teammate of Lecavalier Dave Andreychuk joined Booger and Rich to talk about the decision and Lecavalier’s legacy here in Tampa Bay.

Andreychuk said it’s a sad day in Tampa Bay, but the Lightning are looking to make their team better. The move opens up cap room for younger, talented players to come in and make an impact.

The former Lightning captain said he spoke to Vinny this morning and told him he will make another team great, but noted that the Bolts are losing the face of their franchise.
