Deputies: Tampa Man Beat Girlfriend’s Son

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A 21-year-old Tampa man has been charged with aggravated child abuse after allegedly beating his girlfriend’s son.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says Dontevious Gardner struck the 3-year-old boy after getting into an argument with the toddler’s mother.

Deputies report Gardner the boy several times in the head after hearing him cry. He then allegedly forced the toddler to maintain a push-up position until he went unconscious.

Gardner tried shaking the child and holding him under a shower to wake him. The child did not regain consciousness and Gardner allegedly dropped him, striking the boy’s head on the tub.

The toddler was hospitalized in critical condition with severe head trauma.
