We’ve got a great weekend of The Current coming up for you! It’s a full hour packed with great guests, important topics and ways to connect with the Tampa Bay community. Our segments for the weekend of May 25-26 include:
CBS 60 Minutes’ Steve Kroft on PTSD: CBS Radio News and 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft have come together to present a special CBS Cares segment “Finding The Way Home” exploring post traumatic stress disorder – PTSD – in veterans. We share a portion of that segment at the top of the show; you can listen to the entire 58-minute program here.
Fire Chief Thomas Forward of Tampa Fire Rescue: The City of Tampa’s emergency manager and fire chief joins us to discuss the 2013 Tampa Bay Hurricane Expo on June 1 at the Museum of Science & Industry, as well as tips on how to prepare your home, pets and family for the upcoming hurricane season.
Veterans of Honor Flight: Eighty veterans of World War II recently visited the WWII Monument in Washington at no cost, courtesy of Honor Flight of West Central Florida. We spoke with several of those veterans from the Greatest Generation, along with Major General Karl Horst (Chief of Staff, CENTCOM) and others about their experience.
U.S. Coast Guard on National Safe Boating Week: As National Safe Boating Week comes to a close on May 25, we spoke with Commander Scott Calhoun, chief of the Coast Guard’s Davis Island Prevention Office, Chief Petty Officer Judy Silverstein (Reserve) of Coast Guard Public Affairs and Mike Shea, Division Commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary about ways to stay safe on the water all year.
Chuck Prather of The Birchwood Inn: St. Petersburg’s newest hotel, restaurant and lounge hot spot on Beach Drive just opened and is already making a splash. But underneath The Birchwood‘s glamour is the story of a designated historic building and the challenges involved in bringing it into the 21st century. We discuss those challenges with owner Chuck Prather, as well as his sustainable farm-to-table culinary practices.
