FORT MYERS, Fla. (CBS Tampa) - A man was arrested twice in a 48-hour period, and both arrests occurred because he was driving under the influence.
The second arrest occurred after 29-year-old Elliot Gamble hit a marked patrol car – twice, WBBH-2 is reporting.
Gamble first made impact with a cruiser driven by a Lee County deputy around 10:30 p.m. Monday night. After the initial hit, Gamble reportedly rammed the officer’s car again with his Honda CRV.
When the officer approached the car, Gamble explained that he was drunk, and allegedly stated that he had intended to kill himself. He additionally noted that he hit the police cruiser on purpose, the station learned.
An arrest reported that Gamble was placed in the back of a different patrol car once back-up arrived. A search of his vehicle turned up a sizable bottle of gin, a bottle of vodka, and two beer cans. He was placed under arrest at that point and transported to the station.
Before arriving, Gamble was said to be unable to refrain from urinating in the backseat. Once there, he was given a breathalyzer test, which showed his blood alcohol level to be between .237 and .243, WBBH-2 is reporting.
While processing him, authorities discovered that Gamble had been arrested just two days prior to the accident, also for driving under the influence. He had faced the same charge in April of 2009 as well.
Gamble has also reportedly been charged with assault on an officer and property damage in relation to the April 22 incident.
