Last week’s inaugural edition of The Current was a big success, and we’re grateful to everyone who listened in! This weekend’s show is even more packed with great guests, important topics and ways to connect with the Tampa Bay community. Our segments for the weekend of April 20-21 include:

Booger McFarland and Rich Herrera of Sportsradio 98.7 The Fan‘s coverage of the tragic April 15th bombing at the Boston Marathon. Includes a portion of President Obama’s press conference.

Adrienne Drew with Grow Financial Credit Union: Monday, April 22nd is Earth Day, and Grow Financial, a Tampa Bay-based federal credit union, is celebrating by giving away free pine tree saplings at each of their 20 locations. Adrienne also discusses Take Your Daughters/Sons To Work day on Thursday, April 25th as well as Grow’s financial products aimed at teaching kids to save early.

Lauren Book of Lauren’s Kids: As part of our April series on Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we talk to Lauren Book, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and founder of Lauren’s Kids, a foundation to raise awareness of sexual assault. Every year, Lauren embarks on a 1,500-mile walk across Florida, and we met her in Tampa to learn how she’s helping turn victims into survivors, and even into thrivers.

Governor Frank Keating of the American Bankers Association: Tuesday, April 23rd is Teach Children To Save Day, and we’re joined by Governor Frank Keating, president and CEO of the American Bankers Association and former two-term Republican governor of Oklahoma. He shares tips and pesronal stories about teaching kids – and parents – the importance of saving for the future.

Beth Houghton, Alison Watkins and Amy Whitehurst of Iconic St. Pete: On May 2nd, the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce will honor winners of the 2013 Iconic Awards, recognizing women leaders in business, nonprofits, community service and more. We’ll be joined by finalists both this weekend and the following weekend. Our finalists this weekend include Beth Houghton of the St. Petersburg Free Clinic; Dr. Alison Watkins of the University of South Florida St. Petersburg; and Amy Whitehurst of Paul’s Project.
