Police: Woman Calls 911 Five Times ‘Because She Was Lonely’

VERO BEACH, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – A local woman was arrested after she reportedly called 911 five times because she sought companionship.

On March 30, 64-year-old Fleurette French called 911 to report a medical issue, the “Off the Beat” blog from the Treasure Coast Palm is reporting.

Local authorities with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene soon after her call was placed. According to police reports, she was “in no obvious distress,” and was said to be intoxicated.

It was subsequently discovered that French had called 911 five times between the evenings of March 22 and March 30. Each time, police reportedly responded and noted her inebriated state, then took her to the hospital.

One responding medic found out the true reason for French’s calls.

Authorities noted to the Palm, “French told him the real reason she called 911 was ‘because she was lonely.'”

Once hospital officials were unable to find a medical diagnosis for her state, she was arrested and taken to an Indian River County Jail.

French faces a charge of abuse of 911, the paper learned.
