Police: Man Steals Tractor Trailer Carrying $75,000 Worth Of Campbell’s Soup

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS Tampa) — A Florida man is accused of stealing a tractor trailer carrying $75,000 worth of soup.

WPLG-TV reports the Florida Highway Patrol arrested 51-year-old Eusebio Diaz Acosta early Sunday morning after taking the tractor trailer filled with Campbell’s Soup. He has since been charged with vehicle theft and larceny from shipment.

“These are very unusual facts,” Broward County Judge John Hurley, according to the Sun Sentinel. “The court has seen many things stolen. … This is the first time the court’s ever seen $75,000 worth of soup stolen.”

Police say that a passenger in the big rig ran off after being pulled over on the Florida Turnpike. Diaz Acosta reportedly told police that he met the passenger a week ago and he paid him to drive the truck.

According to WPLG, the truck was stolen from Lessors Inc.

Diaz Acosta, who has a previous criminal record, is being held on $25,000 bail.
