America is, by and large, a forgiving nation. Cheat on your spouse? No problem, Bill Clinton. Flagrant drug problem? All’s forgiven, Charlie Sheen and the majority of Hollywood’s youth.
But what about in sports? We’ll say, ”You’ve found redemption. Good for you! What a great comeback story!” But if you come back and play against our team…Well, that’s an entirely different story.
Josh Hamilton’s reception in Texas was anything but warm. The five-time All-star (honors earned during his career with the Rangers) came back to jeers and reminders of his checkered past. And his wife and children were reminded, too. The taunting became so distasteful, security guards arrived to protect the Hamilton clan.
