TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Defense Department has released the name of a Florida airman killed in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon says 29-year-old Capt. James Michael Steel of Tampa died in a crash of an F-16 near Bagram Airfield on Wednesday.

The Air Force Academy says he was the chief of mobility for the 77th Fighter Squadron, Shaw Air Force Base, in South Carolina.

Steel graduated from the Air Force Academy in Colorado in 2006 and arrived at Shaw Air Force Base in 2010.
