TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Defense Department has released the name of a Florida airman killed in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon says 29-year-old Capt. James Michael Steel of Tampa died in a crash of an F-16 near Bagram Airfield on Wednesday.

The Air Force Academy says he was the chief of mobility for the 77th Fighter Squadron, Shaw Air Force Base, in South Carolina.
