ST. PETERSBURG, FL—The Tampa Bay Rays have traded catcher Stephen Vogt to the Oakland A’s in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Vogt, 28, was designated for assignment by the Rays on March 31.  In 2012, he saw his first action in the major leagues as he served three stints with the Rays and made his first Opening Day roster.  In 94 games at Triple-A Durham last season, he hit .272 (95-for-349) with nine home runs and 43 RBI.  The Visalia, Calif., native has a career .299 batting average over six minor league seasons.  He won several organizational awards during his time with the Rays including the 2012 Al Lopez Award (outstanding rookie in spring training), 2011 Rays Minor League Player of the Year and 2010 Erik Walker Community Champion Award.
