WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (CBS Tampa) - A woman is facing multiple charges after crashing into a police car.
Several minutes after the impact, she claimed to police officers who caught up with her that it was not her who had hit the car, despite colliding with the cruiser in sight of the officer using it.
The trouble began at around 1 a.m. on Saturday, when 26-year-old Jessica Marghel Baker slammed into the cop car while the unnamed officer was investigating a disturbance on the same road.
After she hit the car, Baker left the scene and traveled until her car could no longer proceed, stopping approximately a quarter of a mile from the sight of impact, according to a press release on the Winter Have Police Department’s website.
When the officer approached the vehicle, Baker allegedly claimed it was not her who had hit the car when questioned on the matter. She additionally told officers that she had only stopped to call someone to fix her car after experiencing trouble steering.
Despite her story, authorities arrested Baker and reportedly charged her with failure to maintain designated lane causing a crash, as well as driving under the influence.
She was subsequently taken to Polk County Jail, the release noted.
