KEY WEST, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – Police say a woman attacked another by biting her on the face after reportedly catching her littering.

According to Key West Keynoter, the incident, which took place on nearby Smathers Beach, occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on March 5.

The instigator, 20-year-old Cassilyn Clayton, reportedly reprimanded 21-year-old spring break visitor Madison Pelfrey when she caught her improperly disposing of trash.

“[She] began yelling at her about littering on the beach,” witnesses told Key West police, according to the Keynoter.

The fight escalated, allegedly culminating in Clayton biting Pelfrey’s face.

Responding authorities subsequently placed Clayton under arrested. She now faces charges of misdemeanor battery.

She was released after being initially taken to the Monroe County Detention Center.
