OCALA, Fla. (CBS Tampa) - A local woman is in jail after police say she assaulted her elderly boyfriend.

The Ocala Star-Banner is reporting that the woman, who is 42, beat up her 82-year-old boyfriend after getting into an alcohol-fueled fight with the man.

The paper learned that when authorities arrived on the scene, the unidentified woman ran out to meet them, adding that her boyfriend was inside the home.

When they found him, he was said to be covered in blood, the source of which was an injury to his left eye. Deputies told the Star-Banner that his eye was so swollen, he was unable to open it.

The man, who was also not named, also sustained injuries to other parts of his face.

The man told police that his girlfriend was drinking before the incident occurred  She, however, claimed that she fought him in self-defense, despite having no visible bruises, swelling or cuts.

She was subsequently arrested, charged with aggravated battery and taken to the Marion County jail, while the man was treated at Ocala Regional Medical Center, according to the paper.
