BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS Tampa) - An area man is in prison after pushing his girlfriend into hot coals during an argument.
The suspect, 58-year-old Charles Hansen of Lake Worth, attacked his girlfriend Thursday night during a barbecue, according to a police report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office obtained by the Florida Sun-Sentinel.
The couple had been dining together before getting into an argument that escalated until Hansen reportedly took the unidentified woman and pushed her into the fire pit they had been using to grill food.
According to police, she was held in there for at least a minute by the enraged man.
“She could feel the heat from the burning coals still in it and could only think about how she was going to be burned alive,” officers were quoted as saying in the report by the paper.
Hansen was arrested, and reportedly faces charges of aggravated battery. As of Friday, he was being held in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
The woman was said to have suffered minor bruises following the attack.
The duo had been dating for approximately six months before their altercation last week.
