HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The parents of a missing Florida baby arrested after investigators found human remains in a backyard will have to post higher bond amounts to get out of jail.
Jail records show a Broward County judge raised the bond amounts Saturday for 27-year-old Calvin Melvin Jr. and 21-year-old Brittney Sierra. Both were arrested Friday on neglect charges. Melvin is being held on $150,000 bond. He also faces a charge of obstructing a criminal investigation by providing false information. Sierra is being held on $100,000 bond.
Authorities found human remains Friday in the backyard of the couple’s former home in Hallandale Beach.
Police said Dontrelle Melvin was 5 months old when he was last seen more than a year ago and his father has given detectives conflicting statements on where he is.
