North Florida Pair Sentenced In Fatal 2010 Robbery

PALATKA, Fla. (AP) — A 20-year-old north Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for his part in the 2010 fatal stabbing of man who resisted being robbed of marijuana and cash.

Circuit Judge Carlos E. Mendoza on Tuesday sentenced David Perez Martinez on Tuesday. The judge also ordered that 19-year-old co-defendant Demarkis Phillips should spend 23 years in prison followed by 10 years of probation for his part in the crime.

Assistant State Attorney Jason Lewis says Martinez stabbed Zenovia King several times in the neck and upper torso in June 2010. He says Martinez and Phillips split the marijuana and cash.

King’s body was dumped in a wooded area.
