VALRICO, Fla. (AP) — A man who was involved in a domestic disturbance fired multiple rounds from an AK-47-style assault rifle at Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies responding to a call.
Authorities say 45-year-old Allen Harmeyer made several verbal threats to two deputies who came to the door of his home near Tampa just after 1 a.m. Friday. Deputies say he went back inside the home and came back several minutes later armed with the assault rifle and fired multiple rounds.
One deputy fired back. Harmeyer retreated inside the home, then surrendered a few minutes later. No one was injured in the shooting.
Harmeyer’s girlfriend told deputies he hit her and forced her from the home.
Charges are pending against Harmeyer. Two patrol cars sustained about $2,500 in damage from Harmeyer’s gunfire.
