1. ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE GURU McAFEE ARRIVES IN MIAMI
Antivirus software guru John McAfee is released by Guatemalan authorities and flies to Miami. Authorities in Belize want to question him in the death of a neighbor.
2. RILYA WILSON TRIAL WRAPPING THIRD WEEK
The third week of testimony is wrapping up in the murder trial of the caretaker of missing South Florida foster child Rilya Wilson.
Jurors on Wednesday were played a video of defendant Geralyn Graham’s 2002 interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
3. FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT RATE INCREASE CONSIDERED
Regulators are considering a proposed Florida Power & Light Co. base rate settlement with three groups of commercial customers. It could mean a typical residential customer’s bill rising by $10 a month over four years.
4. TOBACCO VERDICT OVERTURNED
A Florida appellate court is ordering a new trial after reversing an ailing former smoker’s $39 million judgment against tobacco company Philip Morris USA. The judges ruled a Broward County jury was unduly swayed by Cindy Naugle’s poor health and the refusal of Philip Morris to admit past wrongdoing.
5. MIAMI DRUG TAKEDOWN
Sixteen people have been charged with a variety of illegal drug distribution charges as part of a law enforcement operation targeting troubled inner-city Miami neighborhoods. The drugs included heroin, cocaine and marijuana.
