TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Police say they were called to a Tampa apartment complex by a man who was requesting to go to a detox facility. But when they knocked on his door he came out pointing a firearm at them.
One officer fired his weapon as the other officers took cover late Tuesday. Forty-two-year-old David C. Voutas barricaded himself inside the second story apartment. The officers ordered the man to come out of the apartment with his hands up.
According to a Tampa police report, the man came out of the apartment with his hands up a few minutes later. After officers arrested Voutas had a knife in his pocket. He was not hit by gunfire.
He is being charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.
